From there he headed to Athens, GA where he graduated summa cum laude with his bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Georgia. He continued to pursue this profession at Georgia Regents University College of Dental Medicine. He graduated from dental school in the top 10% of his graduating class, and was awarded membership into the Phi Kappa Phi National Dental Honor Society. He went on to further his education at a General Practice Residency program at Carolinas Medical Center Hospital in Charlotte, NC. There he increased his knowledge of endodontics, oral surgery, medically complex patients, and emergency patients.
In addition to his education, Dr. Straughan has been actively involved in the American Dental Association, staying up to date on policies and changes throughout the dental field. He has also been involved in Medical Campus Outreach, a program that reaches out to domestic and international communities. To pursue this desire, he credentialed for dual board certification that certifies him to practice in all 50 states.
